Who We Are
Since 1999, El Shaddai Charitable Trust has existed to provide support to the thousands of children living on the streets of Goa.
We are a not-for-profit charity registered on July 28, 1999 in England with the charity number 1076768.
Some of these children are orphans, others are runaways who are trying to escape the horrors that surround their daily lives, whilst others are children of migrants who work at construction sites. A large number of children on the streets of Goa actually originate from other regions of India but make the long journey to Goa by train, sweeping the carriages, endeavouring to earn money as they go. The children want to reach Goa because they believe the tourists will provide them with everything they need, but reality indicates this to be far from the truth.
As an organisation, we were founded to support the work of our partner organisation, El Shaddai Charitable Trust India, which works to implement the Child Rights Act 2003/05 for orphans, street children and children coming from economically deprived backgrounds. Through the provision of regular financial support to our partner, El Shaddai India, we are able to contribute to the functioning of a series of children’s residential homes, day care centres, community centres and outreach programmes across Goa and beyond.
